A log house is a house typically built of logs that have not been milled into conventional lumber and is structurally identical to a log cabin. The definition "log house" is used more often than "log cabin" by most builders because log cabins are usually smaller and more rustic log buildings (summer house in the woods, hunting cabins, tool houses, or a small hunting cabins). The log home has a long history. Vitruvius Polio was the first architect who described construction with logs in his Tactato del'architectura (Treatise on architecture). He wrote that in Pontus (today Romania, former Roman Empire province Dacia) residential buildings were made by laying horizontally over top of each other and filling in the gaps with "chips and mud". Construction with logs was widely used in Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden and Finland), the Baltic States and Northern Russia where most of the trees are straight, spiny and tall (pine, spruce). Also log construction was common building technique in Eastern Central Europe, the Balkans, the Alps and some parts of Asia, where similar climatic conditions dominate. In today's fast-moving world full of technological innovations log houses are built easily and can last hundreds of years.
Wooden houses are the perfect way to avoid noisy neighbors and other annoying details such as traffic and airplanes overhead. Most of the people try to avoid these disturbances. They expect that living in a log home is a way out, and it really is! Wooden homeowners are less likely to notice these inconveniences because of thickness of hardwood structure. Wood is robust and tough building material. It means that sound and noise hardly go through this heavy material. Living in a log cabin gives you a chance to forget about noisy neighbors, airplanes overhead and traffic. The result is a more relaxing house environment and noise reduction.
Wood, as the main construction material, has been used ever since human started to build a home for itself. There are great benefits of owning a wooden house. According to the University of Georgia, wooden cabins provide low heating and cooling costs, because of the density of the logs. Houses that are produced from logs use less energy for heating and cooling than regular houses. It is dramatically important for both the consumers and the builders. Log homes are energy-efficient homes. For example, wooden houses with walls about 6 inches thick can expect to save between 3 percent and 16 percent on heating and cooling costs. Wooden houses are warm and cozy because they are built very tightly. Choose log cabin if you want to save on the heating and cooling bills.
